In August 2023, I traveled to Puerto Rico for a 3-week vacation to relax and de-stress. Until my arrival, I knew nothing of the public & private transportation system - but I discovered quickly there needed an affordable, reliable and expansive transportation system in Puerto Rico.
I deliberately stayed in Hostels, in lieu of a Hotel or Resort, as I too wanted new adventures in Puerto Rico - Beaches, Mountains, Waterfalls, Kayaking, Sunsets and always seeking great local cuisine. But with no License I couldn't rent any vehicle in Puerto Rico. I was at the mercy of Public Transit and Uber.
Getting around San Juan was really no big deal walking, or an electric scooter or bike, and even an Uber - pretty much $5-10 for the trip around town. No big deal in the scheme of things. But I needed to visit Fajardo, 37-miles from San Juan . . . Uber? $80 one-way to Fajardo from San Juan!
So now I'm in Fajardo at a Hostel, 3-miles round-trip to a gas station/store; everything else - Uber, which took forever. But I was on a researching mission. Not a vacation - this time. But this Fajardo adventure just ate at me for a "better way" to get around the Island
The Uber back to San Juan left a bad taste. 1. I failed in my research mission, and 2. this was a costly mis-adventure I didn't want to repeat over and over getting around Puerto Rico. I began researching transportation in Puerto Rico and found it wanting . . .
Two weeks in and I finally de-stressed and found harmony after "Big City" life in Houston, Texas. I got sick, and then the last 48-hours in Puerto Rico I did a lot of contemplation of the opportunities I discovered during my visit. Affordable and reliable transportation seemed to be a "No-Brainer". Not 60-minutes after landing in Houston before arriving home, I was in 2 traffic jams, caught a train and saw a dead body. Peace, Harmony and Serenity be damned!
The next morning I couldn't believe my first 12-hours home - insanity. How can I move to Puerto Rico? Island Hopper metamorphasized into an identity, a color-scheme, branding and a logo. A Plan formed and . . .
